In November 2014, a group of European experts on children presented the book Positive Digital Content for Kids. This is the first book to specifically investigate the positive opportunities of online content for children. To celebrate the publication of this important book, Mijn Kind Online and CcaM are co-sponsoring a book launch at the University of Amsterdam on December 9, 2014.
Positive Digital Content for Kids examines the work of Europe’s best producers, including the authoritative Ravensburger in Germany, the BBC in the United Kingdom with their CBeebies format, and Toca Boca in Sweden – currently with more than 80 million app downloads. In this book, producers share their secrets on how to make high quality interactive content for children (e.g., apps, online games, and online video). In addition to the producers’ side, two academic experts in youth and media studies – Professor Patti Valkenburg of the University of Amsterdam and Professor Sonia Livingston of the London School of Economics and Political Science – also weigh in on the opportunities of digital media for children. By providing both academic and industry viewpoints, this book provides important information as to how and why digital media can be a positive force in children’s lives. We expect the book to be a great resource for anyone studying or working in the field of youth and media.
