May 2008. Patti Valkenburg has become the first Dutch scholar to be named Fellow of the International Communication Association (ICA). Fellow status in the ICA is the highest recognition of distinguished scholarly contributions to the broad field of communication.
An ICA fellowship is a lifetime achievement award. Very few receive it. During the 58 years of ICA’s existence, only 58 scholars have been named fellow. In Europe, only three academics have received this honor. For a list of existing ICA fellows and a description of their status, click here. Valkenburg received her fellowship at the Annual Conference of the ICA in Montreal, Canada on May 24.
