Nadia Bij de Vaate is a postdoctoral researcher at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR) at the University of Amsterdam. She studied Communication Science at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and obtained her master’s degree in 2016 (cum laude). In 2017, she acquired an NWO Research Talent Grant for a PhD project to investigate how social media use impacts adolescent well-being and body image. During her PhD trajectory, she was also a lecturer at the department of Communication Science at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. As of September 2022, she is a member of project AWeSome (Adolescents, Well-being, and Social media). This project investigates the dynamic effects of social media use on adolescent well-being.
Her research focuses on the role of social media in the development of adolescents’ self-esteem. Specifically, she is interested in how adolescents shape who they are and how they feel resulting from the emergence and continuation of social media usage.
