Child-Robot Relationship Formation

Description

Three four-item self-report scales that measure – on a five-point scale – children’s feelings of closeness toward, trust in, and perceived social support from a social robot. The English items are backt ranslations of the original Dutch items (see below). The Dutch scales were validated among children aged 7 to 11 (for details, see location). The scale of trust was inspired by a measure of the concept as presented by Larzelere and Huston (1980). The scale of perceived social support was developed based on measures as presented by Gordon-Hellingsworth et al. (2016) and Leite et al. (2014). The measure of closeness was newly developed by Van Straten et al. (2020).

Instruction

The items are answered on a 5-point visualized response scale which runs from ‘does not apply at all’ to ‘applies completely’ (children can point out their answers). The response scale was adapted from Severson & Lemm (2016) and is included as an appendix in Van Straten et al. (2020).

Beschrijving

Drie vragenlijstinstrumenten die – op een vijfpuntschaal – meten in hoeverre kinderen gevoelens van a) vriendschap en b) vertrouwen ervaren t.o.v. een sociale robot, en in hoeverre zij c) sociale steun van de robot denken te kunnen verwachten. De items zijn gevalideerd onder kinderen van 7 tot 11 jaar oud (voor meer informatie, zie bron). Het meetinstrument voor vertrouwen is geïnspireerd op een meetinstrument ontwikkeld door Larzelere en Huston (1980). De items die waargenomen sociale steun meten zijn gebaseerd op items van Gordon-Hellingsworth et al. (2016) en Leite et al. (2014). Het meetinstrument voor vriendschap is nieuw ontwikkeld door Van Straten et al. (2020).

Instructie

Kinderen kunnen de vragen beantwoorden door hun antwoorden aan te wijzen op een vijfpuntschaal. De antwoordopties lopen van “klopt helemaal niet” tot “klopt helemaal” en zijn verduidelijkt door middel van een visualisatie. De antwoordschaal is een aangepaste versie van de antwoordschaal zoals gepresenteerd door Severson & Lemm (2016) en is als bijlage opgenomen in Van Straten et al. (2020).
