CcaM'er Jessica Piotrowski delivered the keynote address, titled “Generation Digital”, at the Digital Environments and Developing Minds: Research and Strategies for Professionals, Producers and Policy Maker conference in Sydney, Australia on 28 October. In her talk, she highlighted why we need to Think Different if we hope to support young people in today’s digital world. In particular, she argued we need to (1) consider individual differences in our research, (2) rethink our reliance on ‘screen time’ as a key indicator in our models, (3) better understand the affordances of today’s media environment, and (4) consider robust solutions that work across levels of society including efforts that encourage media balance, global digital rights, and digital literacy.
